  A man who received a genetically modified pig kidney transplant in March 2024 has died, according to a statement released by Massachusetts General Hospital.  The patient, identified as 62-year-old Richard "Rick" Slayman, had battled chronic kidney disease for years and underwent the groundbreaking surgery as a last resort.

  Xenotransplantation refers to the transfer of organs or tissues from one species to another.  In this case, surgeons transplanted a kidney from a genetically modified pig into a human recipient.
