Russia plans to send a special plane and 50 professional mountain rescuers to the site in northern Iran where the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.

Two special Russian helicopters will be sent from Armenia to the crash site, IRNA reported, ordering the move by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The helicopter carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and several other officials crashed on Sunday in the northern part of the country, IRNA reported.  Thick fog has made the search difficult in the remote, mountainous East Azerbaijan province, while bitter cold is further complicating rescue efforts, Iranian officials said.
